A Review of Camp Club USA – Is the Membership Worth It?

Finding Camp Club USA Campgrounds is a lot easier now than it was, say, 10 years ago due to the rise of the Internet.

Camp Club USA is a discount camping club that belongs to a family of companies that includes Good Sam, Trailer Life, and Woodall’s. While Good Sam and Trailer Life cater largely to the motorhome owner and Woodall’s mainly provides camping and information, Camp Club USA’s main purpose is to help its members save money while camping.

Generally speaking, to get the most out of your Camp Club USA Campground membership, you should camp frequently. Still, just two or three nights spent inside a tent under the stars at one of the club’s campgrounds will easily pay for your first year’s membership fee of $49.95.

In fact, all members are entitled to 50% off all campsites featured in the club’s directory, as well as to other exclusive perks. The better of these is a free subscription to the Camp Club USA-Woodall’s Campground Directory Special Edition. The Woodall’s directory is known all over the camping and RV world as the largest collection of RV parks and campgrounds in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

This special edition is a joint effort of Woodall’s and Camp Club USA. The first part contains all the membership information you need to know and the second part contains the locator maps that show the places where Camp Club USA Campgrounds are located. The directory normally costs $25.95 for non-members, but I received it for free when I became a Camp Club USA member. And for every year that I decide to renew my membership, I will also receive the upgraded version of the directory.

Of course, you can still gain access to the campground listings on the Camp Club USA website. The search is really quick and easy, and you can do it by state, zip code, or name of campground that you’re looking for. The website lists campgrounds and details on rates, facilities, area attractions, and travel information, plus a Woodall’s rating indicated by the trademark .

The Woodall’s rating system does not work on a scale of “good-better-best”. In essence, there are different types of campgrounds based on unique needs and preferences. Some people prefer to “rough it out” on a patch of dry grass next to a bubbling stream; others, conversely, enjoy the idea of camping without having to let go of the convenience of modern amenities, such as electricity and Internet access. Fortunately, the Woodall’s rating system takes these preferences into consideration.

Along with the campground directory is an online trip-planning tool that is available to all members of Camp Club USA. I remember being a kid and watching my dad plot points on a map on the kitchen table. He said he was trying to figure out the best way to get to our campsite. The trip-planning tool is pretty much like that, only it is done online.

Instead of drawing points on the map, you only have to type in your starting point and your destination. The online tool takes it from there and even maps out the various Camp Club USA campgrounds that you’ll be passing along the way.
