North Dakota Fishing Guide Outfitter License Fees
A North Dakota fishing guide outfitter license fee is necessary if you wish to offer your services for recreational fishing – or other outdoor recreational activities. It is also a requirement for those who wish to establish a business offering outdoor recreational facilities and related services to the public.
The Difference between Guides and Outfitters
Outfitters are individuals that manage businesses which provide facilities and services for outdoor recreational pursuits. There are two types of outfitters: fishing and hunting.
Guides – or hunting guides to be specific as there are no other types – are individuals who offer services that allow guests to enjoy proper and safe conduct of outdoor recreational activities held in the outfitter’s premises.
Guides are always employed by outfitters. On the other hand, outfitters may act as guides as well. Residents and non-residents may both apply. North Dakota fishing guide outfitter license fees, however, are more expensive for non-residents.
Requirements for a Fishing Outfitter License
The requirements for a fishing outfitter are simpler than those of a hunting outfitter.
All applicants must be at least 18 years old and present proof of their liability insurance. They must also pass a background check by the NDCC to ensure that they have not violated any game and fish regulation or have been convicted of any federal or state criminal violation.
To be more particular, those that have their licenses revoked or had committed a game and fish violation in the past 3 years will not be awarded with an outfitter license.
Watercraft Requirements
Licensed fishing outfitters must always ensure that its visitors or guests are using NDCC-compliant watercraft and adhere to all related rules.
Any boating or fishing watercraft and equipment must have the necessary licenses before they can be offered for hire to visitors. They may also be tested to ensure that they are in sea-worthy condition.
The maximum number of persons allowed on the watercraft must be strictly observed. Weight restrictions also apply at all times. All safety equipment required for use of boat and prior to its operation must be secured on board.
In terms of safety equipment, the most important to have on board are personal floatation devices or PFDs. They must also be stored in an easily accessible location. Visitors who are of minor age, however, are required to wear PFDs (any from Type 1 to 3) while the watercraft is in motion.
Last but not the least, if you plan on using or having your watercraft rented out at anytime between sunset & sunrise, you must outfit your boat with white ‘all-points’ lighting as well.
