Take the NW route of 41st Avenue and head three miles south past Garrison and you’ll soon reach what is popularly referred to as North Dakota’s walleye capital, Fort Stevenson State Park. For fishing enthusiasts, the state park is a must place to visit, which is also the venue for the prestigious Governor’s Cup Walleye Fishing Derby as well as many other fishing tournaments.

What to Do in Fort Stevenson State Park

Fishing is, of course, the primary leisure activity that visitors may enjoy at the state park. If you have traveled to North Dakota to sample its impressive fishing environment then the lake of Fort Stevenson is definitely one of the finest you’ll experience.

Fishing, however, is not the only marine activity you can enjoy at the park. Recent improvements to the park include a modern low-water ramp and excellent boat launching facilities if you wish to sail the clear waters of the state park’s lake. The state park now also boasts of a spectacular marina as well as numerous concessions.

If you’re not that fond of the water then there are also plenty of activities to enjoy on the ground. Fort Stevenson State Park has a prairie dog town as well as a visitor center if you wish to learn more about the park’s history, program itinerary, and calendar of events.

Interpretive trails are available if you wish for a more in-depth exploration of the park. For a long-term stay, there are also sleeping cabins available, which are rented out at $40 per night. If you are traveling via RV, you could get your trailer hooked up to campground utilities for only $25 per night. For access to electricity, you only have to pay $20 per night while primitive camping is priced at $12 per night.

Daytime visitors, however, have to pay $5 per vehicle.
