Cross Ranch State Park

Experience the natural beauty of North Dakota by visiting the Cross Ranch State Park, which is located just a short distance away from the few remaining free-flowing sections of Missouri River.

The History of Cross Ranch State Park

Unlike other state parks of North Dakota, Cross Ranch’s original landscape had been left largely untouched. Once there, visitors will be able to appreciate the primitive beauty of the land and witness the fierce power of the Missouri River when it had not yet been tamed by civilization with the construction of reservoirs and dams.

At the park, visitors may also enjoy learning more about the history not just of Cross Ranch State Park but also of early-day settlers of Missouri River when they check out The River Peoples Visitor Center.

What to Do in Cross Ranch State Park

You will not lack for something to do at Cross Ranch. When you reach the river area, you’ll find a boat ramp to explore the aquatic scenery offered by the park. This area could also serve for fishing as the river is rich with walleye, bass, and pike. But if you wish for more privacy, the park also offers canoes for rentals.

Are you in the mood for more strenuous exercise? If so, Cross Ranch has several physically challenging activities to offer. There’s a trail system that’s quite extensive which you could explore on foot. But when the grounds are covered by winter, the trail has to be traveled via cross country skiing. Either way, you’ve over five thousand acres of breathtaking nature preserve to enjoy.

Finally, there’s an expansive area reserved for camping. You only have to pay $12 per night to enjoy access to the campground area but without use of the campground’s shower and electricity. For access to the campground’s facilities, you’ll only have to pay $15 per night.

Entrance fees are $5 per vehicle but you can enjoy great discount when you pay the annual fee of $25.
