How to Choose the Best Hiking Tours and Outdoor Adventure

The best hiking tours don’t have to be expensive, but they should definitely be customized to meet your preferences. Before approaching any travel agent or agency, it’s best to know exactly what you want in a hiking tour first.  And, to be honest, many tours can extend way beyond hiking!

Destination

Are you eager to visit a particular place or see a particular sight? Alaska, for instance, is one of the best places for hiking if you want to enjoy cool weather and the sight of fjords, polar bears, and other wintry attractions.

Activities

Hiking tours don’t have to be all about hiking alone.  Depending on the nature and comprehensiveness of your trip, other typical activities that may be part of your tour’s itinerary are listed below.

  • Boating, Sailing, Kayaking, and other activities that require use or lease of water craft – In most cases, you won’t need a license or permit to operate these vehicles, but it would be a good idea if you knew how to swim and make use of life-saving equipment in case of emergency.
  • Horseback riding – You need not be a professional equestrian to enjoy this, but your skills could limit the number of areas you could explore on horseback.
  • Biking – Again, this is something that anyone can do but where you can go will depend on your skills.
  • Whitewater rafting, mountain climbing, and other high-endurance sports – They aren’t extreme sports per se, but they are definitely not for the faint of heart. They also require a great amount of endurance from participants.
  • Sightseeing – Activities included in a hiking tour don’t have to be strenuous all the time. You can also enjoy some time relaxing and go swimming or sunbathing at the beach.

Accommodations

If you plan to stay at least overnight at your destination, then you’ll need to consider accommodations:

  • Primitive Camping – This literally means sleeping under the stars, in a sleeping bag or on the ground and in the middle of the wilderness instead of a modern camp site.
  • Campsites – You could rent a camp site and erect a tent or park your trailer or RV.
  • Cabins and Lodges – You’d still be at the campsite, but you’ll be bunking in a cozy camping cabin.

As you can see, tours can go way beyond hiking.  What you do is only limited by your imagination and desire as there are hiking and outdoor adventure tours that can incorporate pretty much anything you can dream up!
