How to Enjoy Discount Camping
Budget considerations aside, you can still look forward to having a great vacation with discount camping. Just use any of the tips below!
Check the calendar of events of parks or campgrounds you plan to visit.
Some of these events could offer free activities and workshops for you to enjoy. As such, all you have to save money for is your gas, food, and campsite rental and then everything else will be for free.
Avoid camping in peak season.
Peak season will only get you jostling with crowds and paying for inflated rates. Instead, plan your camping trip earlier than usual. You’ll still get to enjoy the same ideal weather conditions but at the same time, you’ll be able to profit from affordable rates and less crowds.
Bring your RV with you.
Sure, campsite fees for tents are cheaper but you may have to pay extra for use of other campground facilities. But with an RV, you often have to pay for a standard rate and you can enjoy unlimited access to their electricity and maybe even have cable TV and Internet connection.
Bring your elderly loved ones with you.
Federally and privately maintained campgrounds also offer discounted privileges for senior citizens and sometimes, a few of these may be extended to their companions.
Ask your kids to bring their school IDs.
In many cases, presenting their school IDs would allow your kids to enjoy discounted rates on a wide range of products and services offered on site.
Choose government maintained campgrounds over privately maintained parks.
In general, parks and campgrounds maintained by state or federal departments charge lower fees for camping and other on-site activities. A number of public parks even offer free overnight parking for RV trailers or caravans.
Look for other possible places to enjoy free overnight parking.
In the event that there’s no public park on the way and which you could avail of free overnight parking, look for commercial establishments that offer them. Kmart, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Good, and Sam’s are just a few examples of such chains which offer guests overnight parking for free.
If you’re not sure, don’t hesitate to ask. It’s better to make sure instead of making assumptions that could cause offense.
Join a camping club.
For a nominal annual fee, you get to enjoy discounted rates for campsite use as well as various camping-related products and services. You may be the first to be notified and receive sought-after invites to highly anticipated camping events.
