Travel Trailer
This is one of the most popular types of camping trailer or recreational vehicle (RV) used by vacationing campers and those who prefer an on-the-go lifestyle. Travel trailers are also known as tag-along trailers, travel trailer coaches, and bumper pull trailers because its living area or home unit is attached to the towing vehicle using a ball hitch.
Travel trailers, however, have several sub-types as well.
A toy hauler, for instance, is used for taking what people like to call as “big men’s toys”. These could be anything from motorcycles to four wheelers and dune buggies. They’re an excellent way to travel difficult terrain if you’re not the mood to hike or trek. The most recognizable feature of toy haulers is its pull-down door, which could double as a ramp for your toys or mini-vehicles.
Expandable travel trailers, on the other hand, are commonly used to provide temporary living areas when you’re on an outdoor trip. Vertical expansion would reduce the height of the trailer when you’re at the campsite while horizontal or fold-out trailers have its sides fold out to create temporary beds.
Finally, there’s the teardrop trailer, so-called because of its shape and due to its smaller than usual size, may be towed by large sedans or SUVs.
Park Trailer
This type of camping trailer can only function with the use of park or campground facilities. If you are camping in any location that is not professionally managed and has no access to certain facilities then this isn’t the kind of trailer you need.
Parking trailers are quite spacious, having been designed with entrance decks, skirting, and maybe even a couple of extra rooms. But they do not have dual voltage appliances or even holding tanks and must therefore be plugged into the park or campground’s system for electricity, water, and waste disposal.
How to Choose the Best Camping Trailer for Your Needs
Now that you’re aware of the difference between park and toy trailers, you need to weigh each option’s pros and cons to determine the most suitable mode of traveling for your next trip.
Travel trailers are more flexible in design and may be used even when you’re camping in isolated areas and without access to modern amenities. Park trailers have to be hooked up to a park or campground’s system to function, but it does provide greater space and comfort than a travel trailer.
