How to Select the Best Campgrounds for Your Vacation

What could serve as the best campgrounds for your next vacation depends on your needs and preferences.

What kind of camping activities are you most interested in?

Some campgrounds offer only activities for adults, others only offer activities and programs for children while a few offer activities and events for both. But it’s going to be a bit more difficult to find the ideal campground for your next trip if you’re looking for activities that are specifically designed for handicapped or elderly individuals.

If you are interested in swimming then you should definitely inquire about the campground’s swimming areas. Do they offer both natural and man-made areas for swimming? What about equipment for aqua sports? Are there trained lifeguards present to provide first aid and emergency rescue?

In any case, the best way to find the best campgrounds in terms of the activities and programs they offer is by contacting them directly and making your inquiries. Some campgrounds even offer guided tours that will offer you the chance to experience a wider array of outdoor activities such as horseback riding, canoeing, and snowshoeing.

What kind of amenities and facilities do they offer?

If you are going tent camping, are you amenable to making do without modern comfort and shower rooms? If you are driving an RV trailer, is it the type that could provide power for its own facilities or do you have to hook up your RV to the main power and water system of the campground?

What about optional and recreational facilities such as cooking areas, picnic tables, and gaming areas? Are they available and if so, how much?

What kind of service do campground personnel offer?

Are they well-trained in outdoor living and wilderness survival? Are they friendly and always willing to help? Where, when, and how can you contact them? What kind of assistance can you expect from them?

How much are they charging you?

Rates have to be reasonable even for the best campgrounds. Find out how much they’re charging for RV hookups vis a vis tent campsite rentals. Are there maximum or minimum limits for persons allowed per campsite? Is use of the campground’s water, electricity, and sewage system completely for free?

If possible, inquire beforehand about discounts and promos they’re currently offering. There may be something you can do before you leave and which will let you enjoy reduced rates for your upcoming trip.

hello;

We are coming through your area the 1st and 2nd week of August and want to experience your state to the fullest. Looking for camping, fishing, swimming, historical sites and other activities that would entertain 3 young men from the ages of 10 to 19, also my husband and possibly his parents. We are traveling in a 5th wheel vehicle fully self contained although plug ins and flush toilets and showers would be a bonus for us older ones. Do you have suggestions as to some of the best areas to visit. We are planning a destination to Chicago and will be traveling on hwy 94 east. We are starting from Alberta and coming through Montana. Also how busy is the area and will we have trouble finding available sites if we just show up same day looking for space? Any assistance you can send would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Andrea
