How to Enjoy Your First Try at Beach Camping

If it’s your first time with beach camping then here are a couple of tips to make your trip as trouble-free and enjoyable as possible.

Choose your destination well.

Since it’s your first time camping on the sand, it’s best to try a site or beach that’s been proven to offer an excellent camping experience. An isolated or unknown beach might be enjoyable for seasoned beach campers, but it may just be the very cause of trouble for first-timers. So consider setting up your tent in a more public and accessible area.

Choose your dates well.

Rain and snow aren’t great companions when you camp at the beach so it’s best to go during summer. In addition, check weather forecast reports to ensure that you’ll have sunny weather to look forward to once you pitch your tent.

Also, a single day won’t do. You need to at least stay a few days to fully experience the joys of beach camping.

Make your inquiries.

Find out if you need to obtain a permit or license before you can camp. At times, you may even have to make reservations or pay for your slot before you can set up your site. If you’re looking forward to spending quality time bonding with your loved ones in front of a roaring campfire, you might want to inquire about that, too. There are many beaches nowadays that don’t allow campfires.

Pack smart.

Consider how much luggage your car can accommodate. If you’re traveling on foot then consider how much you can carry without falling to the ground in exhaustion. For beach camping, your first priority should be food and water supplies. If you can’t bring your own source of water then bring a filter or tablets to purify what sources of water you’ll be able to obtain at the site.

Double-check if you have your sleeping gear ready – whether it’s a tent, camping cot, or sleeping bag. In addition, don’t forget to bring appropriate outfits, cooking utensils and equipment as well as your survival and first aid kit.

Choose the best site for camping.

It’s okay to set up your camp near the shore, but only if you’re sure the tides won’t reach you. A private area is also good, but avoid isolated places for safety’s sake.

Enjoy the beach like you’ve never did before.

Since you’ll be staying for at least the night, try to explore the beach with new eyes. Take the time to discover its flora and fauna, admire its sunrise and sunset, and of course, don’t forget to enjoy some water sports or marine activities!
