2008 Interpretive Activities
Weekend interpretive activities, including hikes, campfire programs and Dakota Explorers, are held every weekend during the summer. Information is posted on the campground bulletin boards.
MAY 16-18 – SEVERE WEATHER WEEKEND

Saturday, May 17
- NOAA Severe Weather Warnings. An amphitheater presentation by Rick Cousins on severe weather indicators and what to do and where to go in the event of severe weather. Click here for more information.
MAY 30-31 – TRAIL TO BETTER PHOTOGRAPHY WEEKEND

Saturday, May 31
- 9 PM – Camera Club Presentation. Join us at the amphitheater where the camera club members will critique photos and make recommendations on how the pictures could have been better. Click here for more inforamtion.
- Learn tricks on better photography no matter what type of camera you use.
JUNE 6-7 THE NIGHT SKY

Saturday, June 7
- 9 PM – Starting at the amphitheater with a short presentation on the night sky.
- A short walk to the telescopes to get a better view or the stars and planets through the telescopes provided by the Williston Astronomy Club.
JUNE 13-14 ANNUAL PICNIC & NDQHA TRAIL RIDE

- 6 PM – The Friends of L & C State Park will be having their annual picnic for Members and invited guests.
- Following the picnic, the new multi-purpose shelter will be dedicated and entertainment will be provided by the Enerson family.
- Following our entertainment, we will walk a short distance to watch John Hovde’s presentation on horsemanship.
JUNE 20-21 MUSICAL MAYHEM

- 8 PM – SLICK & SLACK, THE CHRISTIAN BROTHERS will entertain us with their rendition of some old time Gospel and Blue Grass Music. Be prepared to sing along. We have only listed a start time. When it ends depends on you.
JUNE 27-28 BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS.

- 8 PM – Join Mike Casler at the amphitheater and learn about the journals of Charles Larpenteur and Steamboats on the Missouri. Books written or edited by Mike.
- Visit with the author and have him sign a book or two.
JULY 4-5 INDEPENDENCE WEEKEND
Friday, July 4
- Williston’s Model Airplane Club will be flying in the park.
- Watch dogfights and candy drops. Keep an eye on the schedule for start times as weather is a factor.
Saturday, July 5
- 8 PM – Meet Dan Julian & Clydette Boyer. A Métis family that is proud of their ancestry and wants to share their heritage and customs with everyone. Meet at the amphitheater to take this trip into the historic past. click here for more information.
JULY 11-12 CHRISTMAS WEEKEND

- The friends of L & C State Park are again sponsoring “CHRISTMAS IN JULY”. Join them. Bring your camper to the park, decorate for Christmas and win prizes. It is a circus theme year. Click here for more information.

- All Day – More of the same. Fun, Fun, Fun. There will be clowning around and fun for everyone.
JULY 18-19 WILD CREATURES OF NORTH DAKOTA

- 8 PM – Meet Andy Anderson at the amphitheater. He will share his stories on the cougar hunt, paddle fish and many other tidbits he has picked up over the years about the wild animals of North Dakota.

- 8 PM – Audrey Barnhart will be showing her exotic snakes and discussing reptiles at the amphitheater. Come with your kids and your questions to learn the value these creatures have to the environment.
AUGUST 1-2 THE PARK, THE LAND, THE HISTORY.

- 9 PM – Learn the history of the land the park now occupies. Who owned it before it was a park? What did it look like? How was the park constructed? What about now?
August 8-9 BUTT SHOT CAR SHOW
Friday, August 8
- 9 PM -Todd Beard will discuss “How to Judge a Car”. This will prepare you to make an informed decision at the Second Annual “BUTT SHOT CAR SHOW”.
Saturday, August 9
- The afternoon and early evening will be spent watching the car parade and display prior to voting on “PEOPLE’S CHOICE”. Talk to the owners about their creations and restorations. Learn how much work is involved. Enjoy but “DO NOT TOUCH”.
AUGUST 15-16 BIRD, BUGS, & PHOTOS

- 9-PM Dr. Robert Olson will once again awe us with his photography skills and his ability to capture nature at its best. See birds through the lens as the eye never has and visit with other camera buffs and bird watchers.
2008 Special Events
May 26—MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY. Free admission to any state park on Memorial Day, in honor of past and present servicemen and women.
June 14—FRIENDS GROUP ANNUAL PICNIC and Shelter Dedication. Members of the park's Friends group are invited for entertainment and picnic. For information on joining the Friends of Lewis & Clark State Park, give Park Manager Al Larsen a call at 701-859-3071.
July 11-12—CHRISTMAS IN JULY. Decorate your campsite to compete for prizes.
