Interpretive Activities

December 20 – Marshmallow Social

Saturday

  • 10 AM – Critter Craft Corner – join us at the Visitor Center to make your own sled ornament as we learn more about winter solstice.
  •  1 PM– Meet at the Chalet for marshmallows, hot chocolate and games to kick off the winter

December 22 – Winter Solstice Sled Fest

Monday

  • 1 PM – 3 PM – Meet us at the Sledding Hill with your card board box sled.  Various competitions will be held.  Hot Chocolate will be served.

December 27 – Seasons of the white tailed deer

Saturday

  • 1 PM – Meet us at the Visitor Center for an exploration of Turtle Rivers Resident: The white tailed deer.  We will explore these favorite animals from the tiny wobbly legged fawns to the majestic buck in full antlers.  This story is an intimate look into their lives surrounded by the beauty of the woodlands through the seasons.

January 3 – Which way did they go?

  • 10 AM – Critter Craft Corner – join us at the Visitor Center to make a your own set of animal tracks as we learn about the different types of animals in TRSP and what tracks they leave behind.
  • 1 PM – Meet us at the Visitor Center for an exploration of animal tracks and animal behavior. 

January 10 – Winter Wildlife Watch Walk

Saturday,

  • 10 AM – Critter Craft Corner – join us at the Visitor Center to make a twig picture frames as we discuss the best way to capture wildlife on your camera.
  • 1 PM – Meet at the Chalet for a guided wildlife watch walk.  Bring your binoculars and cameras to capture memories of what we discover.  Dress appropriately for being outdoors for an extended period of time.

January 17 – Snug in the Snow

Saturday,

  • 10 AM – Critter Craft Corner – join us at the Visitor Center to create your own snow science charts as we explore the different types of snow crystals found in TRSP.
  • 1 PM – Meet at the Visitor Center to learn about how animals survive the winters in North Dakota.

January 24 – Learn to Cross Country Ski

Saturday,

  • 10 AM – Critter Craft Corner – join us at the Visitor Center to make your own fun print journals as we explore the various winter activities available in our State Parks.
  • 1 PM – Join us at the Chalet to learn how to cross country ski on some of our 6 miles of groomed ski trails.  Dress appropriately.

January 31 – Winter Birds

Saturday,

  • 10 AM – Critter Craft Corner – join us at the Visitor Center to make a bird feeder wreath as we learn about the different types of birds found in TRSP.
  • 1 PM – Join us at the Visitor Center to discover what your favorite winter bird is.

February 7 – Nutty About Nature

Saturday,

  • 10 AM – Critter Craft Corner – join us at the Visitor Center to make a recycled bird feeder.
  • 1 PM – Join us at the Visitor Center to learn how to make your backyard bird friendly. 

February 14 – Who’s Coat?

  • 10 AM – Critter Craft Corner – join us at the Visitor Center to create your own pet rock as we discover what makes each animal different.
  • 1 PM – Join us at the Visitor Center to learn about Fun Fur Facts.

February 21  – It’s All About Survival

Saturday,

    • 10 AM – Critter Craft Corner – join us at the Visitor Center to make candles and candle holders.
    • 1 PM – Do you have the skill to survive in the outdoor during winter? Join us at the Visitor Center to learn basic winter survival skills.
